RETRACTION: I have been informed that the previous post showing Senator Dole using both arms is the result of a photo that has been flipped. We apologize for this error and simply hoped people could make their own decisions about Senator Dole's war injuries. After all, he never bled that I know of.

From the The Nation Aug 12/19 1996

Dole's first wound. It was in the first of these night patrols that Dole received the wound for which he was awarded his first Purple Heart. He ruefully confesses in his 1988 autobiography that his wound was self-inflicted: "As we approached the enemy, there was a brief exchange of gunfire. I took a grenade in hand, pulled the pin, and tossed it in the direction of the farmhouse. It wasn't a very good pitch (remember, I was used to catching passes, not throwing them). In the darkness, the grenade must have struck a tree and bounced off. It exploded nearby, sending a sliver of metal into my leg -- the sort of injury the Army patched up with Mercurochrome and a Purple Heart." The wound was so minor that he led another patrol two nights later. He does not mention that others were also injured by his misguided throw.

Photos showing Senator Dole at the GOP convention in 1996. Note how sometimes he's using his left hand and sometimes he's using his right. Which is it Mr. Flip-Flopper? Did you really get injured? Or was it just a ploy to get the sympathy vote?

"Until this moment, Senator, I think I never really gauged your cruelty or your recklessness. Let us not assassinate this lad further, Senator. You have done enough. Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you no sense of decency?" --Joseph Welch, June 9, 1954--

I Did Not Object

First they came for the foreigners here in America and took them away. I did not object.

Next they invaded other countries and came for people who they said were enemy combatants and took them away. I did not object.

Then they declared some Americans enemy combatants and took them away. They said they did not need to provide proof to the American people. I did not object.

Then they came for the protesters and took them away. I did not object.

Then they denied all people their constitutional rights and took away anyone who tried to exercise them. I did not object.

Then they declared anyone opposed to the party in power an enemy combatant and came for them and took them away. I did not object.

Then they declared anyone opposed to the policies of the government is an enemy combatant and took them away. I did not object.

Then they came for the judges, whose job is to protect our constitution and rights, and took them away. I did not object.

Then they declared anyone, it did not matter whether you supported them or not, could be taken away. I did not object.

Then they came for me and took me away. I OBJECT!

But it was too late. Once they started to take our rights away, no one was safe.

I'm George Bush

Judge Declares Freedom of Speech Costs $18.2 Million, But Is Not For Sale.
Grass More Important Than the Rights of Americans to Peaceably Gather

Federal Judge William H. Pauley III, forgetting that his rights will be abridged by this ruling, has declared that it is more important to preserve the grass in Central Park than the rights of Americans to peaceably gather to exercise their freedom of speech. Quoting the judge's decision,

...the intense public interest (emphasis added) in these proposed events...could...destroy the Great Lawn. ...destruction of the lawn would be a terrible thing.

Since the lawn renovation cost $18.2 million, it is obvious that is our price for freedom of speech. Does intense public interest mean that a lot of people want to go and express their opinions? Was there any evidence of illegal activity planned? Or is it the people who want to rally just have the wrong opinions? Is this still America?

As I understand it, grass can be replanted. How about our FREEDOMS?

Check out how the Bush campaign steals our Olympics

I have noted in Victory, the latest television ad for the presidential campaign by Bush - Cheney '04 the term Olympics and images that appear to be of Olympic Games past and present. Here is the script for the ad according to the Bush - Cheney '04 campaign web site:

Script for "Victory"

President Bush:
I'm George W. Bush and I approve this message.

Voice Over:
In 1972...there were 40 democracies in the world.
Today...120.
Freedom is spreading throughout the world like a sunrise.
And this Olympics... there will be two more free nations…
And two fewer terrorist regimes.
With strength, resolve and courage, democracy will triumph over terror.
And, hope will defeat hatred.
